The Studio
_SA:PN:DA is a Seoul based design studio heavily utilizing digital techniques in both designing spaces/products and providing parametric driven design solutions. SA:PN:DA has three arms with distinctive agendas; Selective-Amplification, Para-Nuvo and Design-Autonomy.
_SA : Selective-Amplification // We are very interested in exploring various parameters that form the contours of our lives. We thoroughly observe how we live to understand invisible logics and variables behind the surfaces. To carve out opportunities out of possibilities, we then selectively amplify (or reduce) and re-organize the recipes based on agendas within project-specific contexts. This design process, which we call Selective-Amplification, provides healthy interfaces between the people and the surroundings, which eventually translate into physical environments as in Architecture and Interior.
_PN : Para-Nuvo // Parametric Design is not entirely new, but rather its concept has been there with architects, designers and engineers for the past centuries. Only the advent of computational power has unleashed the explosive use of parametric design in design fields such as architecture, interior, and product design. New things from parametric design is what PN is aiming to achieve.
_DA : Design-Autonomy // Design Autonomy provides practical, efficient and productive solutions for architects, designers, engineers and artists utilizing computational design in such areas as rationalization, panelization, optimization, automation, and analysis.
Woojae Sung (성우제)
WS(AIA / RA NY) is a founder of SA:PN:DA. He is a registered architect in New York state, and has been an architect/designer since 2000 working with internationally renowned design practices in New York and Seoul including OMA, SHoP Architects, Grimshaw Architects, TWBT, SOM, Gensler and Samoo Architects.
He also taught numerous parametric design workshops at Harvard, Cornell, U-Penn, Syracuse university and CCNY. Teaching materials and articles on parametric design can be found on his personal website, http://woojsung.com.
He received his Master of Architecture from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York and Bachelors of Science in Architecture and Civil Engineering from Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.
